Dr. Joseph Young (artistic director) founded the Genesis Chamber Singers in November 2014 and has been their director since that time. Joseph received degrees in music education from Illinois State University and in choral conducting from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana (M.M.) and Boston University (D.M.A.), studying with Ann Howard Jones, Scott Jarrett, Scott Metcalfe, and David Hoose. Born and raised in Illinois, Joseph has taught music at all levels and has conducted a broad array of choral ensembles of virtually every type, including professional, community, church, children, high school, and college. He also has extensive experience as an arts administrator, working for the Merit School of Music in Chicago, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Tanglewood Institute of Boston University. He is currently director of choral activities in the Hingham Public Schools. A freelance composer and arranger of numerous unpublished works for chorus and piano, Joseph has also worked as singer and conductor with Fred Stoltzfus, Chester Alwes, Anne Heider, Michael Schwartzkopf, Donald Chen, and Michael Thompson. He lives in Marshfield, MA with his wife and two children.
